Common line-rate conversions
| Internet speed | Equivalent file rate | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 100 Mbps | 12.5 MB/s | A mathematical unit conversion before overhead or other limits. |
| 300 Mbps | 37.5 MB/s | Three times the line-rate file throughput of 100 Mbps. |
| 1,000 Mbps | 125 MB/s | The line-rate equivalent of one gigabit per second. |
Plans and file apps often show different units
Internet providers usually advertise Mbps. Browsers, launchers, and file-transfer tools may display MB/s. A 100 Mbps plan and a 100 MB/s transfer are not the same; 100 MB/s corresponds to 800 Mbps before overhead.
Broadband Facts plan characteristics still use connection-performance figures; check the unit printed on the label.

Dividing by eight converts units only. Protocol overhead, Wi-Fi, congestion, storage, and the sending server can lower the observed MB/s. Use the transfer calculator when you want a practical completion-time estimate.
