Research standards

Source-selection policy

Technical requirements come from official vendors, government and regulators, formal standards bodies, or transparent calculations from those sources.

Reviewed August 3, 2026

Source order

We prefer current official vendor documentation, followed by government or regulator publications and formal standards. A derived figure must identify the official values and calculation used to produce it.

What is not treated as authority

Affiliate blogs, unsourced search snippets, AI summaries, forums, and competing calculators are not used as the technical authority for a bandwidth requirement.

Evidence labels

Official means the value is published by an authoritative source. Derived means it is calculated from official values. Heuristic means it is a transparent site planning choice where no universal requirement exists. User provided means the visitor entered it.
